AUSTRALIAN CONTROVERSY. KATIONAUSATION SUGGESTED. (Received 9.45 a.m.): * SYDNEY, this day. The question of ttic earlier closing of hotels in *ie interests of soldiers is again very prominent. Mr Elolman (Pre,mier of N.S.W.) brought down a storm upon his bead by referring to the early closing advocates as wowsers and maudlin Sunday school sentimentalists. Speak-1 ing , a.t Parramatta to-night he said that the Government Labour party favoured the nationalisation of liquor, and advocated a referendum on the question. If the Government obtained authority thereby, it would devote itself to carry- , ing out reforms.
