PATRIOTIC AID.
■WORK OF THE CLAIMS BOARD. STATEMENT OF FUNCTIONS PROMISED. Six more applications for assistance were made by disabled soldiers and dependents of soldiers to the Claims Board this morning, when a sitting was held at the Town Hall. The Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunson) presided, and with him were Messrs. F. J. Ewcn, E. Phelan, and C. J. Tunks. Most of the cases Were dealt with, and in one or two instances applications were deferred for the consideration of deserving aspects. The Mayor subsequently informed a reporter that a statement of the functions of the Board, and also a statement in regard to the adminstration of the funds is being prepared, and it will be referred to the next meeting of the executive, which is on Friday. It is felt, the Mayor explained, that some clear statement, defining the work of the various committees (which are now thoroughly organised) should be made for the information of the public. This statement will also include a reference to the functions of the claims board.
