LABOUR DISPUTES.
DRAPERY TRADE AWARD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH', Wednesday. The dispute between the Christehurch Retail Drapers' Assistants' Union and the employers has been settled by the union accepting the Wellington award.
Mr J. McComb6, MP-, who appeared for the union, said statistics showed that the cost of living had increased and warranted a greater wage. Erom August, 1914. to August, 1915, the increase in the cost of living in places quoted was: Auckland, 11.65 per cent; Wellington, 13.20; Christehurch, 13.44. He was quite sure that the increase was not generally recognised. The increase an the cost of living had been greater in Christehurch than anywhere else in the Dominion. The union did not want it to go on record that they yvere satisfied yvith the award. LAUNDRY WORKERS' DISPUTE. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The laundry workers' dispute was before the Conciliation Council to-day, women appearing for the first time as assessors. The union asked for a •**- hour week, yvith overtime, the employers contending for hours and overtime in accordance yvith the Factories Act. The union also asked for increased wages, which the employers objected to. Exemption yvas granted to the Salvation 'Army, St. Mary's Home and Wellington Hospital. The claims and counter-claims were considered in committee and adjourned.
