MOUNT EDEN WATER.
■ MAINS IN DOMINION ROAD. COUNCIL SAVES £3000. The work of extending the Mount Eden water supply, which is now being put in hand, was authorised in conjunction with the big loan proposal some ten months ago. It is not necessary—as has been stated in one of the newspapers — to raise another loan of £5500. At the time of authorisation there was a shortage of pipes, and work was deferred. The city turncock has since permitted pressure on the Mount Eden mains. The six and eight inch pipes that arc now being laid along the western side of Dominion Eoad, from the main in Eden Terrace to Milton Road, are calculated to relieve the undue pressure that has been felt of late in certain parte of the district. The engineer (Mr. J. Sogers) has been authorised to push on with the work so as to complete it as expeditiously as possible. This morning the Mayor (Mr. Oliver Nicholson) informed a reporter that by adopting the amended plans the Council was saving £3000 on the work.
