LONDON WOOL SALES.

WELLINGTON, this. day. ■ The High Commissioner's cable, dated London, January 18, is as follows:—"The wool sales commenced to;day. There is great competition for all wool, especially ' crossbred. The supply of N ew Zealand clip is very small, and there was not sufficient of it offered to-day to test the ' market. Values arc a penny per pound higher than the closing rates of the last sale. The upward movement is very likely to continue. There are 17,800 bales of New Zealand wool catalogued. Estimated values given by the High Commissioner in a cablegram on the last wool sales were as follow:-—Superior merinos, 1/6 to 1/0; medium merinos, 1/2 to 1/5; inferior merinos, lid to 1/1; .fine crpssbreds, all grades,. 1/7 to 1/9;- medium croaabreds, all grades, 1/5 to 1/8; coarse crossbreds, all grades, 1/3 to. 1/6. The Bank {of New Zealand has received the fodowing cable from its London office: "Merinos-par to 5 per cent, dearer. Slipcs 5 to 7-J per cent, dearer, greasy crossbreds not represented."
