■' _ Mr T. G. Burrcll, of Auckland, has been appointed electrical engineer to* the Mangawcka Town Board. Mr A. Rowlands, manager of the Whangarei Free-ring Company, left for Wellington by the express. Messrs. C. J. Owen, J. Whitney, and A...J. .Tenkin have been elected members of .the Auckland Automobile Association. Mr. L. C. Rathbonc has resigned his seat on the Dannevirke County Council, as it is his intention to reside in Auckland. Mr. C. E. Coghlan, who went to Samoa with the first Contingent, and was afterwards appointed postmaster, has resigned in order to go to tbe front. Mr George Allport, Secretary to the Marine Department, leaves to-morrow by the Hinemoa on a visit to the lighthouses of the North. ■, His Honor Mr Justice Cooper was in Auckland this morning, and transacted some Chamber business at the Supreme Court. Mr. H. W. Northcroft, late Commissioner of the Cook Islands, arrived in Auckland last night, accompanied by Mrs. Northcroft. They are staying at "Radnor." The death of Mr. Lancclto Indermauer, district officer for the EUice Group of Islands, and Deputy Commissioner of the Western Pacific, is recorded in the " Samoan Times." He was a Cambridge graduate, and was formerly a barrister and solicitor at Tonga. Mr. Tom Haslett, formerly one of the travelling secretaries of the Students' Volunteer movement, and who is well known in New Zealand, has gone from i America to England to take charge ot the Y.M.CA. headquarters for the Australian and New Zealand troops. Mr J. Irvine, chief clerk to the Public Works Department, having been transferred to Wellington, was entertained by tne Maoris of that district, Enoka Ngatai making an eulogistic speech upon the occasion." "Mr H. Kisslinsr presented Mr Irvine with" a Handsome Maori mat and basket. At the farewell gathering the Maoris gave a war dance and also the pretty poi dance. n M , r C ; J- T *'°n_*- manager of .the. Bank-of * N-cw Zealand at Christehurch. for some years past, who comes to-Auck-land to take up his duties as trustee in connection with the Trust Department of the N.Z. Insurance Company, was' presented with a cutlery cabinet and a gold watch by a number of his old friends before leaving the City of the" Plains. Mr Harkness Hamilton, a yon- old resident of Auckland,, died at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr Percy Ward, of Remuera, yesterday, at the advanced age of 84 years. Deceased arrived in Auckland with his father, the late Dr. James Hamilton, in the ship Merchantman as far back as ISB3, Mr Hamilton, with his brother, carried on a business as chemist at the corner of Queen and Swanson Streets for many years. he had a chemist's shop at EUcrslie. Deceased was a member of the Anglican Church, and at one time was a Synodsman. Mr Hamilton was for years closely identified with St. Thomas' Church, Union Street. He is survived by his daughters, Mrs P. Ward and Mrs F. E. Grant."
Mr. Robert Lath, of the jobbing department of the Brett Printing and Publishing Co., was yesterday made the recipient of a presentation on the occasion of hiu departure for Trentiuiai to go into training for active service. Mr. Loth has made many very close fricnd3 during his association with the firm, and they desired to take an opportunity to wvah him good luck and a safe re turn. Mr. John Hume, of the jobbing department, in presenting Mr. Lefch with a very valuable wristlet watch with an illuminated dial, appropriately expressed the - vc.ry cordial feelingm that were held hy all regarding their departing comrade. Mr. I.etb returned thanks for the good wishes and the gift, in appreciative terms.
