I The Methodist Ladles' Guild, which has been in active work for some months past, I held a successful sale of work in the Garrison Hall on Wednesday, December 15. Needlework, sweets, fancy goods, with . vegetables and farm produce, formed a I pleasing display in the ample space provided, and the following ladles superintended tho stalls:—Mesdames J. H. TrounI son, T. Wilson, Avery, J. Cross, Tetiey, 0. 11. Jenkins, E. Goodall, and Misses R. Cliff, Sherlock, W. Trounson, Godfrey, I.uldgvist, and Grace Wilson. In conaec--1 tion with, the function a public tea was provided, and a sale was continued daring the evening. A programme of competitions, Including nail driving, wood sawing, spelling, etc., with hat trimming and sock -«lnrninp for the gentlemen bad been arranged, and added great Best to the night's enjoyment Mr. G. Petley wielded the hammer In the auction of unsold goods at the close. The net proceeds were £70, which are to be used In clearing a recent liability incurred In re-rooftng, and Installing furniture, etc., for Hie parsonage, together with providing for future maintenance. ; The townlshlp is qnlet, having suffered an exodus for the Christmas holidays. The harbour beaches at I'ahl, Puriri Point, and elsewhere have attracted many campers nnd visitors. Operations at tho Main Trunk railway works have been closed for a fortnight, covering Christmas and New Year.
