Few things impress a vlsreor to New Zealand more (writes a Christchurch paper), especially during popular holidays, than the sobriety of the crowd of pleasure-seekers. The Christmas holidays have proved no exception to the general rule, at least, so far as Christchurch is concerned. Despite the length of the holiday, the hundreds of visitors and extra temptations to excess at this festive season, drunken men were rarely seen, the police having one of the easiest Christmas holiday times on record, only about 10 persons being found in a condition making it advisable to take them in charge. The position was somewhat different in Wellington, the "Post" stating that on Christmas Eve the police took into custody 35 individuals whose way of enjoying the festive season made them incapable of taking proper care of 'themselves.
