A TURKISH CLAIM TO VICTORY.

WAR OFFICE I>ENIAL OF ENEMY STATEMENT. (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, December 28. Only the bare fact of the New Zealand operations in the Senussi country ias reached London.

A Turkish communique claimed that the Senussi in Egypt continue successfully to attack the English in the Sista region, and that they almost completely cleaned out their enemies during the attack on Matruh, 240 miles east of Solium Bay. It is claimed that 300 English were killed, and that the remainder became Mohammedans. Two guns, ten motor-cars and much munitions were captured. The War Office yesterday issued a denial of the Turkish statement. They say:—"There was no fighting with the Arabs on the western frontier between the J4th and 24th, but we located the principal Arab force eight miles from Matruh, and on Christmas Day dispersed it with trifling British loss."
