EFFECT ON' SHIPPING. The weather during the week-end has hampered the shipping on the coast, though moat of the Northern Company's boats were in port over Sunday, thua escaping the worst of the south-west-erly gale. The Rimu, from Hokianga, arrived at One-hunga eight hours la.te, 'being delayed in crossing the Manukaa bar. During yesterday the 'bar was practically unworkable, although at eight o'clock this morning the sea had considerably subsided, and it was hoped to dispatch the West Coast boats from the Manukau port up to timetable. The Union Company's Monowai, which left Auckland on Saturday afternoon for southern ports, was unable to call at Oisborne, and passed on t<? Xapier direct. The Waitemata Harbour was exceedingly rough, and during the afternoon a dinghy to swamped near Birkenhead. One of the five occupants swam to a yacht near by, and the launch Sterling Girl pat off from the shore and rescued tile others from the water, -wet through but uninjured. The scow Rangi broke from her moorings near the Kind's wharf, and was rescued after driftiu" some distance towards Stanley Bay. ° Twenty-thTec points of rain fell'during the 24 hminj preceding 9 ajn. Sunday, and during the same period preceding 9 a,m. this morning, 90 points were registered. A large hoarding in Ponsonby Road was almost levelled to the ground this morning, a.nd the large amount of bunting and decoration used in connection with Saturday's Carnival was considerably damaged by the wind.
