VILNA CAPTURED AFTER STUBBORN DEFENCE
THREE GERMAN ARMIES ENCIRCLE TOWN. GARRISON COMPELLED TO HASTILY RETREAT. (Received 10.10 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, September 10. An official meseage states that Vilna has been occupied by the Germans. A Berlin communique states that General yon Eichhorn's sweeping attack against \ Una led to complete success, the Russians being compelled since yesterday t<i hastily retreat along the entire front owing to General yon fcholtz'g ajid General yon Gallwitz's encircling movements. A simultaneous sharp attack on Vilna was made, and although etrongly ortified, the town fell into German hands.
