The Hon. Dr. Pomare left for Wellington by last night's express.

Information has been received of the death of Dr. H. Orattan Guinness, M.D., F.R.G.S-.. the well known evangelist, whom it ivill be remembered visited Auckland some years ago. For some time past Dr. Guinness lias been acting director of the Regions Beyond Missionary Union of London.

The Rev. J. H, Sykes. who is leaving Hutt to take charge of the Anglican parish of Kilbirnie, was presented with a purse of sovereigns as a mark of esteem from the residents. The farewell function was attended by many friends belonging to other creed?, an evidence of the popularity of tho guest.

Chief Detective Herbert, who is well known in Auckland, having been transferred from his present station to (hvisti'hureh. was farewclled by the citizens of Dnnedm. and Mrs. Herbert was presented with a silver chain purse, containing a cheque for a substantial sum. The Mayor and city councillors attended the function.

Mrs. henry Ifardington. whose death is announced to-day. wa» a very old resident of the Auckland district. She was born in Devonshire in 1824, and had. therefore, attained the ripe, age of 91 years. She came to >Xew Zealand with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Smart. 7*2 years ago» in 1843, by the ship Rlenheifm. Her parents settled at Xew Plymouth, years ago. in 1843, by the ship Blenheim. In IS4S Miss Smart was married by the first Bishop Selwyn at St. John's. Tamnki,. to Mr. Henry Hardington, who died in ISB7. Mrs. Hardinpton had no family. For about twenty years after her marriage she lived in Auckland, and eincc then at Onchunga.
