The German Embassy denies tlie alligation that Meyer Gerhard is really l)i Meyer, the hca<l of the ammunition pur chasing department of the German Go , ernment. President Wilson refuses I discuss the matter, but he states tin there is no evidence of proof of an hoax. A cablegram yesterday stated tha the State Department had ordered nr: investigation into charges concerning a supposed doctor, Anton Meyer Gerhard of the German Red Cross, who was re cently raising funds in the United I States, and was given safe conduct homo Ito Germany, lie was really Dr. Alfred Meyer, the head of the Ammunition Purchasing Department of (he Gorman Government. It is alleged that Meyer acted as a spy while ostensibly upon a Red Cross tour.
