OFFER OF A HOSPITAL WARD.
A meeting of pupils and their ! friends was held at the St. John Ambulance Station, Rutland Street, to I inspect the preliminary arrangements i which are being made there for a j voluntary aid detachment hospital ward of 30 beds. The. work has' been carried on during the past few I weeks by Major Girdler, N.Z.M.C, who | has been lecturing and giving practical ] demonstrations to a class ol ladies, from which it is proposed eventually to form a voluntary aid detachment in accordance with the regulations laid down by . St. John Ambulance Association for j hospitals equipped by them and placed , at the disposal of the military authori- | ties. As soon as the arrangements are a ; little further advanced, and more beds completed, it is hoped to invite all who ■ are interested to a formal inspection. The intention is to complete the ward in . every detail, with a view to its removal at a few hours' notice to any building decided upon by the authorities, and ] when it is no lonpcr needed for the use I of the wounded, to present it to form j one of a series of cottage hospitals in j remote country districts. Our Cambridge correspondent writes: —"Mr. Samuel Adams, the well-known musician in Auckland, has for many years owned property in Cambridge, and always takes great interest in the place.. Mr. Adams some years ago purchased) the property formerly occupied and! owned by the late Major John Wilson.' known as "Waterside." and yesterday i he wired the Mayor (Mr. M. Wells") offering the fine establishment as a hos-1 pital for soldiers during the period ofi the war. The Mayor has forwarded the offer on to the .Minister for Defence." Mr. Adams today received the following telegram from Mr. M. Wells (Mayor of Cambridge): "Many thanks for your generous olter of 'Waterside 1 for invalided soldiers. Your oiler has been forwarded to the Minister „.f Defence. On behalf of the Cambridge public- I tender you our warmest thanks." WANTED FOR TRENTHAM. The Auckland Ladies' Patriotic Committee istiii wants a number of Balaclava ' caps to send to th.. troop, m camp at ] T-onthsm.
