TRADE WITH AMERICA.

. m —. ——— A RAPID EXTENSION. ANOTHER SERVICE TO START.

An interest in" position has arisen with regard, to the recently inaugurated service between New Zealand ports and Uoston nnd New York. ALfchoii_fli the service, when mooted, was looked upon as something of a venture, the Federal .SJiire Line steamers, which carried the first cargoes from New Zealand to the American |)orts. soon dispelled any idea thai there was not sufficient inducement for the trade. Since its inception, tiie service has grown steadily, and now the offering is more thinn sufficient to ensure a regular timetable.

Hitherto, there has been but one company in the field, the Federal Shire Line, which has announced its intention of Tnaintainin_ -a regular monthly timetable between New Zealand, ports .And -P.bstdff arid .New York. 'Now, however, tihe local agents for the Shaw Savfll Line report that it has heen decided to load the steamer Delphic, (which is at Dunedin lat various Dominion ports, for Boston and Now York. The vessel is expected -at Auckland about August ] 5. and. finishing her loading here, will sail from this port Pnally a couplp of days later. Tihe Delphic will be followed at more or less regular intervals by other stea-mens of the same line.

Th-e fact that two saicli largo shipping concerns have entered the lists iv tlic new ttu-ifa services .seem to shfrw that tlrc big pnflsibilit-it* of th-e new outlet for Dominion produce is realized in shipping circles, and it would not l>e surprising if. a lit Mo later, other shipping lines also entered 1 the contest.

■A ea'ble received .l>y the local agents for the line states, that following t-he stbe-amere Sussex next mouth, and the Hororata in •Septernlver, the two stearn'srsi I>a-ntTs,hire and Morayshire will take cargo from the -Dominion to Boston and. Xew York. The Banffshire will lie here in September, while .tihe Morayshire should arrive in October. Iln August there will Ire two large cargo steamers —the Susisex and the Delphio—- loading here togeth-OT for ■America.
