PERJURY BY MAORI.
IN SLY GROG CASK
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WHAXGAREI, this day.
A sequel to the recent sly grog Belling case at Moengawahine was abeard before Mr Page, S.SL, in the Magistrate's Court today, when a Maori named Harry Kaikou wais charged with perjury in having stated that he had been offered £20 by Sergeant Moore if he (Kaikou) procured a bottle of whisky from Abrahams, also that Sergeant Moore would get liquor from him °Kaikou) at the Whangarei or Kamo hotels: and. further, that Sergeant Moore would pay £10 if Kaikou brought in a Maori boy who was drunk at Moengawahine. This was emphatically contradicted by Sergeant Moore, also by Constable Condon. Accused (represented by Mr Harrison) pleaded "Guilty," and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
