ATHLETICS.
The Onehunga Friendly Societies got off their sports last Saturday at the third attempt. Ut was a beautiful day, and a very large crowd -was present. The. officials, headed by Mr. Martin (secretary), and 'Mr. T. Gilbert, worked hard to keep the even-is mowing, and they are lo ebc congratulated on thoir efforts. -l.Mc.-srs. Higgins and Dane had charge of the children's events, and were -kppt busy 'the whole day. The 4-lo,vds was won by IA. P. Ingley. who indulged Parley with the lead until the straight was entered, when he went to the .rout, and won very easily. Cornaga got a "move on the green, and won the 100 yds from Raker. A feature of the day's sport was the success _f the Rrpnnans in thp evelp pvents. iM. .1. Brennan winning the Novicp and dead-heat for second place in the Pardy Cup; A. Brennan won the Half-mile, One Mile, and the. Pardy Cup. Tlip officials arc so pleased with the results of iheir work, that it. is their intention 'to launch out on a far larger scale next year, when they will ihe lirld earlier in the season.
