At Coventry, Helena Taylor was summoned for using her house for betting, and Cissle Marshnll ilSi. her daughter by a former marriage, was summoned for assisting in the management of the house. Plain clothes oflicers visited Taylor's house and made bets with her ou each occasion. It was alleged that other persons were there betting, and that Marshall was assisting in counting the money deposited with the slips. On one occasion there was £10 in silver on the kitchen table, and betting slips on horses and football matches were handed in by children aged fourteen. The hoiine was raided by the police. Taylor was lined £50 and costs or three months, and Marshall £5 and costs or one month. An application for Taylor to have access to the books seized to be able to pay bets to tho winners was refused by the magistrates.
