The excellent programme or vandevUle attracted another large audience at the Opera Honse last night. The L.yrical Poor afeain met with a hearty reception, as aleo did the Leopold Sisters, the St. Leonards, Bright Sisters, the Decurs (with the clown, donkey), apd the other artists appearing in the curreut programme. ST. JOBS BENRFTT CARNIVAL.. A successful carnival was held at the Royal Uiuk last night, to augment the funds of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. The rink was prettily decorated with artificial flowers, which, with the bright dresses or the skaters, made up a striking scene. Tbe competitions were keenly contested, and iv some instances tested the whole Mre. A. B. Mackay, and Captain Holmes (of the Iris). The andleuce showed they appreciated the awards by rigorous applause at every decision. The prize-winnere of the evening were:—Best floral umbrella, I Miss L). Hendry: best fancy dress, Miss C. Clarke and Mise M. Marritt; best Uoral hat, Miss A. Waring; best gentleman's costume. R. Mofa-be; funniest vegetable, .T. Rnssell (an enormous leek); best floral dress. Miss Vila Cooper; best character drees. Miss Tucker (Scotch flower seller). The teams' competition caused much interest, and eventually resulted in divided, honours. Miss Russell's and Miss Hondry'e teams sharing equally the judges' opinion. The half-mile handicap wae won by 3. Pratt. The hockey match, Auckland players on foot versus skating players, was won by the men on foot.

riCTDRE ENTERTAINMENTS. At the Queen's Theatre the striking picture play "The Mothering Heart" will be presented for Che last time this evening. To-morrow there will be a change, the feature being "David Garrick." •'On the Altnr of Deal!" Is attracting much attention at the King George Theatre. Among some other excellent films are "Figure Skating," "The Pursuit of the Smugglers,** and eozne good comic subjects. The astonishing drama "The Monse and the Lion" meets with the approval of tue Globe patrons, the detective's struggle for life in the water being a feature in a thrilling drama. "The Kelly Gang" continues to make the Royal Albert Hall a much-sought-after place. The interest in the story of Australia's remaTkable highwaymen is one of One of the most notable films the Lyric has ever produced is "The Strength of Men," which is drawing large houses nlglitly. The programme also Includes many other j*"ood subjects.

At the King's Theatre the management never fails to keep up the reputation It established for getting the latest and best. The feature this week Is "The Doll." •The Stolen Symphony," "The Father," and "The Poacher's Pardon," are three of the priuclp.il items at the Newton Continuous Picture Palace in the present programme. THE ROYAL HINK. The Royal Rink will continue Its foor daily sessions, which include the learners' sessions tram 10 to 12 •Sβ 5 to 7.
