PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday. The Palmerston North Borough Council to-night entered an emphatic protest against )«.- proposal Jwatained in. the Local Government Bill that the Mayor ehall be ejected by! the Council,. instead of by the bargesees. It wa» urged that the proposal was undemocratic, and w&uU militate against the • independence, of the Mayor; also, that the proposal had always been , defeated when before the Municipal Conference. It was resolved to forward a copy of the resolution to the Premier Md member for the district, and that thY latter be asked to oppose the. proposal -' ' . J&g,
