A particularly good programme is bdai screened at the Queen's Theatre as the firs) bi-weekly change. The list of pictures hat been very well chosen, and is sure to at tract large audiences. The chief film it "The Ace of Clubs." an exceedingly interesting drama featuring that remarkable detective, Nick Winter. The picture en»» braces an unusual number of thrilling lik cidents, and the plot is both original anC realistic. The other dramatic subject it "The Governor's Daughter."' a sensational story showing how a pardon saves a man from the scaffold at the ninth hour. The third edition of the New Zealand Animated Gazette is screened, und includes a number of interesting studies of H.M.s. New Zealand and her crew. The humorous section of the programme is very good, the best being an absurdly funny farce entitled "Basso and the Wonderful Ape." Some beautiful and interesting views of Bio d« Janeiro are also screened. GLOBE THEATRE. The new programme at the Globe Theatw is headed by a splendid Indian drama entitled "Indian Raiders." The picture showi in a very exciting manner how a settler's wife is captured by redskins, but managet to escape and embarks on a sensational ride to the fort. She succeeds in warning the troops, who return with her in time to prevent the redskins from massacring th« settlers. The ether dramatic subject is a study of entitled "Freddy's Dumb Playmates," and showing how the wonderful sagacity of a pony and dog saves a little boy's life. The two comics, "The Tired Cook" and "Rivals," are extremely funny, and nnsually original. The current edition of the "Warwick Chronicle," with its usnal number of interesting topical events, is also screened. "QUO VADIS?" At the King's Theatre on Monday night next the much heralded Cinee" film play ' 'Quo Vadis," which is SOOO feet in length, and is a complete evening's entertainment in itself, will be screened for the first time in the Dominion. The hold which this work obtained over the public In Europe and Australia wonld indicate that ft is indeed , a remarkable creation. It established a record of six months at the Royal Albert Hall, London, and was honoured with a command night by T.R.H. the King and Queen. In Australia it held the screen for . sis weeks at the Lyceum Theatre, Sydney, and for a similar period was exhibited at West's Picture Palace, Melbourne. "The Orchid," "The Man ia the White : Cloak," and "Under the Make-up" are three unusual dramas in the new programme at the King's Theatre. Mr John Bunny is probably the favourite comedian of people who follow the moving. pictures closely. At the Lyric Theatre tonight will be given an opportunity of eeeing Mr Bunuy as "Pickwick." A war story called "When Lee Surrenders" and "The False Order," in which-Js introduced a railway smash, will fee shown at the King George Theatre to-day. ORGAN RECITAIi. The usual weekly recital of the cltjr organist (Mr. Maughan Barnett) attracted another good attendance of lovers of organ music in the Town Hall last Saturday night. Guilmanfs "Grand Choeur in D" with its stately chords and sustained harmonies was given with fine precision and majesty. The Trio was charmingly phrased . and the return to the principal theme was rendered in a manner which displayed admirably the full tone of the organ. Dered'a Communion op. 0, exhibited the eoft combinations, and the player's grace o£ phrasing while specially effective was the legato, a>nd staccato, performance in the A major I movement. At its conclusion a repeat wae insisted upon. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in C major" received a masterly rendering Cleanness of execution marked the delivery of the Toccata, the intricate pedal solo was I rendered with distinctness and accuracy, while the Adagio following was given with breadth and authority, and a splendid interpretation marked the reading of the subsequent fugue. Thome's "Simple Aveu pleased so much that it had to be repeated. Mozart's "Minuet in D" was daintily performed, and the rendering given of the four movements from Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite displayed the organist's versatility. Saturday week the next recital will be given. ALLEN DOOXE'S RETURN. Mr. Allen Doonc. tho Irish singfif comedian, will play a retunn season at Hli Majesty's Theatre, commencing Monday next, July 7. The opening production will be . tho domestic drama "Tho Parish Priest" Since Mr. Doone's last visit to Auckland, he has made an extensive tour of New Zealand, and the large business done iv the different towns visited shows how romantic Irish drama is appreciated. The popularity of skating as an indoor pMtime Is becoming quite the vogue, and large numbers attend the afternoon and evening sessions at the Royal Rink, where a patent i new floor is being added, which, when finished, will present a smooth polished, glass appearance, and add to the speed of the skaters.
