BOYS AND GUNS.
•WHANGAREI PROSECUTIONS. (By Telegraph— Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Tuesday. A prosecution arising out of the recent -Par-Iraki shooting case was heard' at the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Victor Dent, a youth (Mr Steadman), was charged with Belling a pea rifle to John •Keilly, a boy under 16 y-eaxe of a<*p. Serjeant Moore proseciited. Defendant was admonished by the Bench and fined £1 and costs. ' A. "R- Mac-en (Mr Harrison) was charged with having sold ammunition for a. 'pea rifle, io Edward Sheehaji, who "gave evidence to that effect. The defence wss a complete denial of such a sale. "Remarking that the evidence was very conflicting, the Bench dismissed the case. Norman Drummond ('Mr Harrison) W36 also charged with selling ammunition for a pea rifle to John "Reilly. This case was on similar lines to tho preceding ■one, and was also dismissed on acoonirt of conflicting evidence. Patrick Tiermey pleaded guilty to cup-
plying a pea rifle and a-mmtmition' to John Refl'y, stating, in mitigation, that ,"t was always his practice to refuse to sell ammunition to boys, but Reilly - "had been working for him and thoroughly omderstood rifles. Taking these circumctances into crms"deTa,tio— a light penalty *£.">/ was inflicted, with 12/8 costs.
