; Mr J. F. Perrin, formerly editor of tjja "New Zealand Tablet," died recently fe Melbourne. \ The Hon. G. Fowlds. who has been in Wellington attending the Congregational Union, is back in Auckland. Messrs. H. A. Gordon and W. J. Rafoj, ■have been re-elected to the board of directors of the Taupiri Mines ComaanV Limited. Jr • Sir James Carroll, who had to go into "'"'■ a private hospital in Wellington, is reported to be making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Mr. J. B. Reid, of ElderaUe, Canterbury, was a passenger by the San Francisco steamer last week. He is on a visit to the Old Country. The Hon. H. D. Bel], Minister' for ■ ■ Internal Affairs, arrived in Auckland ■this morning to take part in the reception, of the battleship officers. ' 1. The funeral of the late Mr. James EmMing, formerly of the Bank of New.Zealand, took place at Karori the day before yesterday, the body being cremated. His Excellency the Governor and Lady Liverpool returned to Auckland this morning after their tour in the country including Rotorua, Okoroire, the Wajkato, and the Thames. Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Jane, of Mount Al>bert, left by the Main Trunk- express last night to join the steamer Rotorua at Wellington for a holiday trip to Ensland. . * Mr. J. J. Deceased was atone time very active in public affaire, arid was a member of the old Wellington Provincial Council. Mr T. Eonayne, general manager of the New Zealand railways, is to retain his office until the arrival from England of his successor, Mr Hiley, at present in the employ of the North-eastern. Company. -. ~ Mγ John F. Ewen, of Dunedin, has been appointed a direetorof Sargood, Bon, and Ewen. Ltd. The other members ql the directorate are Messrs P. "R. Sargood \ (Dunedin), D. A. Barleyman, a well-known ; resident of Kaponga, dropped dead one day last week while unharnessing' his ' horse after retnming with his wife from a drive. Deceased, who was educated at ; Nelson. College, lived formerly in the Mana.wa.tn, but for'the past 26 years has resided in Taranaki. The General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Forces (General Godley), owing to an attack of influenza, has been compelled to cancel his arrangements to attend the Cambridge camp on Thursday and Friday next..
