A letter was received from the District Health Office acknowledging receipt of the il.'i per annum, and stating that he would recommend the acceptance of the same in early date. Mr .1. <Jreenacre wrote protestIng against the railway gates at the Onslow Street crossing being locked. The letter was re«-elved. A report of the conference of local bodies (held reccntlyl in connection with representation at the forthcoming Auckland Exhibition: was received, and tbe Board was asked to send delegates to the next meeting to be held in Hamilton on Ist May. Messrs .1. P. Bailey and L. B. Harris were appointed. The approach to the new bridge across the Waikoto Uiver has for some time been engasins; the attention of the Road Board. The Public Works Department propose to grade the road np to the level of the bridge, while the Board advocate a subway as being most snitable. and more economical. Representations have been made to the Department on many occasions without result. At the Inst meeting of the BBard it was decided to write to the Prime Minister (Hon. W. P. Masßcy). and ask his support. A reply has .been received from him stating that he has gone carefully into the matter with the Minister of Pnblic Works, and thnt as the Board's scnvme preseuts many engineering difficulties, regrets that the Departments decision must be adhered to.
The members of the Board spoke very strongly agaiDst the action of the Government in practically Ignoring their repeated demands in this matter, and considered that if the Public "Works Department's scheme wore carried ont it wonld be greatly to the town's detriment. It Is understood that the Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey) win he in Auckland on Monday and Tuesday, 2Sth and 29th Inst, and he has agreed t<i receive a deputation from the Board on one of these dates.
A meeting of those interested in the formation of a debating society was held in the King-s Hull on Friday, Mr .1. Elliot presiding over a fair attendance. It was decided to form a society under the name of the Hnntly Parliamentary Debuting Society, and an organising committee was set up.
Since the recent labour disturbance tbe Huntly Rrass Band, which promised at one time to be one of no mean order, has collapsed. At a meeting held on Wednesday night it was decided to ask the trustee Mr J. r. Bailey, to call in all instruments' and to re-form the band as qnickly as p<^
The Iluntly Doy S - Drum and Fife Baml commenced their first lesson under conductor Sor K eant-Major Leoch last night. To open the season tile Hnntly Rod and <;..d Club have decided to bold a live pigeon
match handicap in Mr L. B. Harris , paddock on tlip west side of the river on Saturday afternoon, 10th met. The conditions are three birds per man, and the tlrst prize is a trophy valued at £1 I/.
