NOT AN OFFENCE.
FIRE DESTROYS VALUABLE GRASS. (3y Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) WAIHI, this day. In the Juvenile Court this morning a boy aged 13 years was charged with having Wilfully •destroyed by fire 30 acres of grass, valued at £50, the property of Thomas Tierncy. Sergeant Wohlmann represented the police, and Mr Jackson appeared for defendant. The owner of the. property said that between 45 and 50 acres of grass, mostly cocksfoot, were'destroyed. He estimated the damage roughly at £100. The evidence showed that defendant set fire to a toi toi bush with the object of opening shellfish for bait. He stated that he put the fire out, and could not account for the subsequent fife. The Magistrate said there, had been no offence under the Act., The boys did their best to put the fire out. He dismissed the case. ,
