BODY IN THE HARBOUR.
I A NORWEGIAN SAILOR. ! The body of Herman Ludwig Hal worsen, a Norwegian sailor, was found ,in the harbour between the Railway wharf and Goldie's timber mill about 7 o'clock this morning. A carter named Charles Grcydon noticed the body lying on a ledge of rock beneath the water. He at once communicated with the waterfront police, and Constables Shaw "and Sherman went to the spot, secured the' body, and had it conveyed to the morgue. It had apparently been in the water for about 24 hours, and marks on the face and hip indicated that the • man had struck something in a fall. On an examination being made of his clothes it was found that the only thing in his pockets -was a wallet containing seaman's discharges. Halwcrsen, who was 31 years of age, has been in Auckland for some time, and has been employed for a period as an A.B. on the scow Tally Ho. A report was current this morning that another body had 'been seen floating in the harbour and that a scow had reported a roan lost overboard, but it seems likely that Halwersen was the man spoken of in the first place. An inquest will be held.
