SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE.

POSITION IN WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Questioned to-day regarding the Gear Company's action in discharging slaughtermen on Saturday on the ground that they were not doing sufficient work killing only six sheep an hour while able to do twelve, Mr Reardon (secretary of the Slaughtermen's Federation) said the company's action would only make the men more decided in adhering to the demands. The Federation had a good insight into the working of "free" labourers, and was better pleased than ever with the new position. The Gear Company's action would only tend to put the men's teeth on edge. Mr Reardon added that the Canterbury slaughtermen had abandoned the idea of accepting 27/6 per 100.
