Mr. L. V. Harcourt. Secretary of State for the Colonies, replied, thanking Mr. Allen for the offer, but stating that there were no strategical or political necessities to prevent the ship carrying out her world's tour. While on the ship yesterday His Majesty inspected the bakery, and examined the white bread being made for the ship's crew. He recalled how, when he himself first went to sea, the bluejackets had to put up with biscuits full of weevil? and flour that was maggoty. The King was shown the° new machinery in the engineroom by EngineerCommander Turner. Seeing the mauve, white and green upholstery in the <*unroom. His Majesty remarked that the quarters were more like a lady's boudoir. When someone pointed out that these were the suffragette colours there was general laughter. The crew introduced to the King the Ja'P* mascot, a bull pnp named Pelorus The Navy League entertained Sir Joseph Ward at luncheon. Sir Joseph in respond! n» to the toast of his Tiealth Haul that he looked forward to the time when tne Imperial fleet would be so effective that other nations would hesitate to try conclusions with it. Mr. Allen paid a tribute to Australia's great sacrifice.
