MARKETS FOR MUTTON.
GERMAN DUTY REDUCED. LOXDON, February 1. The municipality of YVilmersdorf (Germany) is selling daily a parcel of Australian mutton, consisting of about SO carcases. For the neck "3d is being obtained, and 9d for the other parts of the carcase. The German Government has allowed a reduction of duty to 0.96 d per lb until October 1, but lias notified that this concession will not be extended beyond April, 1014. Herr Henoch, the Australian Consul at Berlin, has ordered 25,000 carcases of Australian mutton for delivery during the next four months.
The proprietors of one of the Berlin papers, the 'Tageblatt.' , arranged a dinner at the Hotel Adlon. at which it was intended that the guests should have an opportunity of comparing Australian mutton -with the German articleIncluded among the company were Professor Bougert, of the Veterinary Academy, Herr Glotz, director of the Abattoirs, two or three prominent authors, an-d a leading mentber of the theatrical profession. When the joints were reached, mutton was the only fare, and in order that the diners should not know beforehand the particular brand with which they were being served, they were given plates containing mixed portions of the meat of both countries. The guests afterwards unanimously declared that there was no difference in either taste or appearance between the newly-slaughtered German mutton and the frozen article from Australia.
