LACK OF ACCOMMODATION.
AT GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL. ADDITIONS TO BE MADE. i 1 The Auckland Grammar School Board i spent some time yesterday in discussing 1 the overcrowded condition of the Girls' Grammar School. It was stated by Miss Butler, the lady principal of the school, I who was present at the meeting, that whereas the Board's original limitation to the number of pupils was 320, there were at present 430 girls attending -the i school. Something should be done, said Miss Butler, to alleviate this condition of affairs. The plans submitted by the architect . provided for three additional rooms to ] cost £2,000. In the course of the discussion it was suggested that the number of pupils should be limited, also that extensions be built on the Board's property in other districts. Professor Thomas expressed the opinion that the attendance should be limited to 350 girls, but Dr. Roberton sug- I gested 400 as the limitation. The Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr) thought the best plan would be to make the limitation 500, and provide the extra accommodation necessary. He wanted to j know what was to be done with future i free-place pupils. | Dr. Roberton suggested that they be I handed over to the Government with the j explanation that there was no room ! fbr them. After the position had been further discussed, a plan was adopted providing for two eixtra classrejoms, a cloakroom and a gymnasium.
