SIR W. LAURIERS SCHEME.

A GOVERNMENT REPLY. OTTAWA, December 14. The Hon. L. P. Pelletier (PostmasterGeneral in the Borden Cabinet) replied to Sir Wilfried Lauricr's criticism of the Borden naval scheme, taunting him that he was not so anxious to aid Britain when he had the power. If there were a real trial of strength in Britsih waters, where then would be the value of the Canadian squadon if it were in Canadian waters? He looked upon it as absurd to say that Canada could man and own a fleet, when she was not at present able to man one cruiser. AI the crews of the Rainbow and Niobe had been brought from Britain. Mr Pelletier said that Sir Wilfrid Laurier was only parading his generosity, knowing that there was no likelihood of his being asked to give effect to it.
