"THE MESSIAH."
The topic in musical earcles at present is the production of <; The Messiah " by the Choral Society, which takes place in the Town Hall on Tuesday next. To those who have ■ never heard Mr. Andrew Black in oratorio, his wonderful artistry will be a revelation, and the famous basso is certain of a big reception. That fine tenor, Mr. Walter Whyte. who recently returned from England, is said to be in excellent voice, and his many admirers should accord him a hearty welcome on his reappearance. The fine soprano solos, as sung by Madame Wielaert, should be quite a feature of the production; and Mass Gweny-bh Evans, contralto, completes a quartet of soloists which is seldom possible tn get together. Notwithstanding .the heavy expense incurred, the Society has decided to make only a trifling increase in the prices of admission for this concert, and ample provision is being made for .the saJc of reserved seats, the demand for which has already set in. Th*. box plan opens at Wildman and Arey's on V iriday morning, and subscribing members may -book their Beats on Thursday.
