AUCKLAND EXHIBITION.

MAZE PROPOSAL ABANDONED. The Exhibition Grounds Committee met this afternoon, Mr. Geo. Eliott presiding. The chairman reported that the proposal to erect a maze liad been abandoned as the work would be too costly. The layout of the grounds was further discussed. It was decoded that the fence at the back of the Exhibition run right across the ground instead of diagonally, as proposed. A proposal to erect a reinforced concrete fence round the front terrace was made in a letter received from iMr. W. 8. Johns, contractor. Mr. Johns also suggested that concrete vases planted with ferns and shrubs would greatly beautify the grounds. Trom 100 to 150 of these vases would be required. He was prepared to supply these vases at a nominal rental of 3/ per vase during the. term of the Exhibition, or, in lieu ot this amount, he was willing to take back the vases after the Exhibition on condition that the ferns and shrubs became his property, and that he was permitted to sell them during the time of the Exhibition, on the understating that they be not removed until the Exhibition was over. Mr. Johns also made an offer to supply concrete seats on certain conditions. The committee decided to accept the offer regarding the vases, and to ask Mr. Johns to supply further details regarding the fence and the seats.
