In its comment, on tbe Marten meeting the "New Zealand Times" sayß:—"Mr. Hertgill was Judge and Mr. O'Connor starter, but neither was an successful as usual. The ending of the C..T.C. stewards in The Rover case has been the principal item of the week in sporting circles. It Is genera conceded that the Southern officials have given the case a. lot of consideration, and their decision has met with universal approval. From the finding, as wired through, it would appear that The Rover was eligible to be nominated for the C'.J.C. National Hurdles, and this win settle the question of .the doable betting in favour of the layers. Probably the case will go to appeal.

According to the "Dominion," 0. Price, after consultation with his solicitor, instructed the latter to telegraph to the C..3.C. asking for a copy of the minutes, and the evidence taken at the meeting at which tie was disqualified, as be wishes to prepare his appeal from It. Price will not admit that be has no ground (or appeal. He contends that, despite the alteration to Rnle 7. Part XXXI.. of the "■Roles of Racing" (making it impossible to appeal on a "question of (act , ), he tag still the right to appeal on the succeeding rule, which states, inter alia: —-'Any person aggrieved at any decision may appeal." etc The contention is that this rule, coming after Bole 7, is still operative, and will remain so until it Is repealed. This seems to be logical, and, incidentally. It would appear as if there is an urgent need for an early and complete revision of the "Bules of Racing." It Is understood that, at the bearing of his appeal. Price -will ask to have the assistance of a well-known Tnranati sportsman in conducting his case. He points out. that there Is precedent for srwh a procedure, as, at the Julian appeal, Mr. W. P. Archibald -wae allowed to appear. Price expresses confidence that this request will be granted. He holds the view that the Canterbury stewards will not wish him to Jk handicapped in by inexperience..
