STREET PAVING.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —If "'"Pavior" will turn up my first letter and read it thoughtfully, he will see that I have been dealing with the main objection to paving these roads with granite aetts (viz, the slippery surface), and at the same time pointing out tliat by using a stone of Auckland's own product, which is equal to tihe Lonkey atone at Home, this objection could be overcome, and at the same thne giving us the durable roads required which ''Pavior" also admits in his lotters. I note Ins remarks suggesting that the City Council extend the experiment of street paving to include granite sette, but at the same time he does not suggest tha.t they also include this native stone. Is he afraid that if they do this will prove more ecomHnical than the granite?—l am. etc.. HERBERT S. XICHOIiL.

(To the Editor.) Sir,— l hope you will kindly allow mc a Tittle space in your valuable paper re the above subject. I am a pavior with practical experience of various kinds of paving materials, from old stone cobbles down to the latest in granite pavement namely, durax, or, to give it its proper name, armour paving. Now, in my opinion, for all roads, except very steep ones, granite cubes cannot be beaten. In London a year or two ago, in order to test the shpperinese of various kinds of lavements, observations were taken over 50 days for 12 hours each day.
