LEYS INSTITUTE GYMNASIUM DISPLAY.
I -. A gymnastic display, given by the pupils of Professor Phillip*, director of the Leys Institute Gymnasium, was given at tie gym-nasiu-ni last evening. There was a Urge gathering of pereats and friends, aid Mr T. "W. Leys presided. Musical selections wpre given at intervals by the Leys Institute orchestra, under the cnnclnctorehip of Mr Adanae. Tho programme consisted of no j overture by fh<» Leys Institute Orchestra, I deportment aud dumbbell exercises (girls' olassi, 'horiHontal bar mien's class), figure marching, and c'oih and wand exercises clasßi, relay rare i&oyf" class) in whit-h four prizes were offered and vr«ro won by Dunn's team, parallel bars (ffieii'* class I. nand exercises (boys' class), Indian club exercises (ladles' daae). vaulting horse (boys' class), and a running maze. The programme 'proved to be decidedly interesting, excellent work being done on tile irorizogtal and -parallel bars, irtiile tie marching, figure I m arching, and «lu!b »u<] wand exercises were prettily and effectively carried out. j The relay r»« mid vn-ultine horse event* (were al«> tlie cause of a good deal of fun. In the running maze 100 iboye ajKl girls par* tjjc*patjpd. and tie effect was unique indeed. At tbe cjaee of the evening's entertainment four medals -were presented tor work done dtirtng the session. That in the boys' class (■preerat*d by Mr T. W. Leys) was won by W Wawieil; that in the girls' class (presented by Mr T. U. Well&) by 'Jllse R.
