THE EXCHANGE. . The. tendency on the Exchange is still towards doing more business in investment than mining stocks. Sales Were reported to-day of South British Insurance at 79/, at which price more could have been placed. New Zealand Insurance changed hands at 94/6 and 94/9, Union Oil at 25/, and Hikurangi Coal at 18/. Cement shares are meeting with a little better inquiry. New Zealands selling today at 28/. while 36/ was offered for Wilsons, either issue. A transaction took place in Auckland Trains preferred shares at 23/9. and inquiry was made for New Zealand Drug- at 51/. Buyers of National Bank shares firmed to 122/, and New Zealand Bank had still demand at £11. Mining shares showed little alteration in price. Rising Run shares sold at fivepence, owing ton reef havin-» been cut. Transactions took place in Saxons and Sylvias at late rates, and Waitangis were placed at 1/. New Zealand Crowns were a little easier sell'inoat 2/4. ° Risrxn SUN". The manager telegraphed to-day: "Cut through a reef 18in. wide, good prospect." BREMNER'S FREEHOLD. A telegram was received early this morning from the manager of Bremner's Freehold as follows:— down the reef in No. 2 stope yesterday afternoon, secured 511)5. of picked stone, reef 18in. wide."
PTLVERSTREAM. The annual meeting of shareholders in the Silverstream (J,M. Co. was lield at 11 a.m. to-day in Mr. J. B. Sheath's office, Imperial Building. Mr. A. Tempest (chairman of directors) presided. There was a good attendance. The report and balance-sheet (already published) were adopted on the motion of the chairman seconded by Mr. Knos Bond. The retiring directors, Messrs Donald and Longiiet, were re-elected directors, and Mr. William Dimery was added to the Board Mr. P. L. Prime was re-appointed auditor.
Mr. Burton (mine supervisor) said tbey had pot the reef and the blue stone. Another eight feet should cut the known sliute found on top. The country was full tif seams, the country rock beino- all shattered. On the east there was a 13----inch reef, and another about the same size on the west. He considered the outlook was pood, as there were 100 feet 0/ backs. When he left the mine great blocks of ore were coming out on the hanging-wall. Some would be big blocks of blue stone, and others white. Further ahead was the place where the rich finds were made in the early days. The first shipment of three tons of ore was on its way from Hikntaia to Copple Creek. At 2/ per oi-. for the silver in the block of stone in the office, the v»lue by assay was £48 per ton. * Mr Sheath said ffi per ton would cover the total cost of delivering ore from the reef to the smelter in Copple Creek.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. (Joklen —The rise on the Fiery Cross reef Is now np 50ft, and carries crashing quartz nearly the whole distance. The rise on the leader Is up 28ft. The last 6ft Was through the old surface slip, the quartz cutting out at 21tt. The crosscut under the outcrop is In 00ft. A small stringer ot quartz giving splendid dish prospects was cut turough on i'rlday, and there are utill -Oft to be driven before striking the main lode. Crushing will start on September 2nd.
