Captain E. B. Atwood has arrived in Auckland from Wellington and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Our Waihi correspondent telegraphs that. Archdeacon Brodie's condition is greatly improved, and his complete recovery is now looked forward to. Miss M. J. Fraser, for some years principal of the Wanganui Girls' College, will be principal at the new Presbyterian Ladies' College at Havetock North.— (Press Association.) Dr Cro3sley (Bishop of Auckland) has returned from Wellington. At St. Mary's to-morrow afternoon he will hold a confirmation, service and in the evening will preach at St. Alban's. Mr B. Daidge, of the Auckland branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been transferred to the Levuka. branch, Fiji, and leaves by the s.s. Ha-nroto on Wednesday next. Mr A. E. H. Harrison, who has been appointed chief administrative clerk in the City Engineer's Department, has for the past •fourteen years been employed in the Auckland District Traffic Manager's office. Mr. >F. Mander (member for Marsden) was, entertained at a complimentary social gathering in the Theatre Royal last night, Mr. W. A. Carruth presiding. A number of ladies were among those present. Mr C. Grey (Milton), Mr W. R- Baird (Invereargill;, Mr J. CarsweH (Invercargill), Mr N. Dobson (Christclmrcli), and Mr B. G. Whitcombe (Christchurch) arrived in Auckland by the Main Trunk express from the South this morning. Mr H. W. Wilson (Town Clerk) and Councillors R. T. Michaels and J. C. Gleeson left by tin , . Main Trunk express last evening to attend the Municipal Conference at Wellington. Mr G. J. Garland, Deputy-Mayor of Grey Lynn, leaves for Wellington this evening to attend the conference, News has been received from Melbourne that Mr Reynolds Demikton, of ■the Plimmer-Denniston Comedy Co., is still con-fined to his bed in Kalgoorlie, I and that it is feared that his heart is i affected as the result of the severe illness he has been suffering from. It is doubtful if lie will be able to rejoin j the company for the New Zealand tour in September-. -I
