NORTHERN WAIROA. The Northern Wairoa Brick Company's plant and maclxinery is to arrive in a flay or two by the steamer Ibuiuuta. Building is Jn operation, and the company expect to put out then- first lot of bricks within two mouths. At the Dargavi'.le Court on Tuesday the Mitchelson Timber Company were lined £15 mil costs for employing boys without having their wages fixed .with the Union. This was the case adjourned on application of the defendants at last Court for a non-suit on the grouud that the Company, being in liquidation, was not open to a civil action. The Otamatea County Council on Monday accepted A. Dodds' tender of £42 0/4 for the Paparoa-Mareretu Road, and O. Walker's tender at £6 lor P-arabi Road formation. The tender of McGaflin aud Burnett for metal supply was a<-cepted as follows:—Ruawai, £1L102; Matakohe, £0,827: Tokatoka, £4,240. The RailwaysGeneral Manager wrote that the volume of traffic did not warrant the extension of the fast service to Kaiwaka on diree days a week. When the railway was extended to Otamatea, which it was hoped would be by the end of the year, the matter would be considered. A subsidy of £20 was voted to a telephone system in Paparoa riding. WAIPU. In the Coronation Hall Last week the ladles of Waipu gave a leap year ball, extending invitations from the' neighbouring districts. A bountiful supper was provided in one of the ante-rooms. The dance music was supplied by Miss Hill (piano), .Mr. A. McDonald (cornet), and W. Mufler (vlollni. The duties of M.C* devolved on Mcsdanies A. McDonald. N. McMillan, Misses I. jlx-Innes, and Kate McKay. CQROMANDEL. A lecture, entitled "The King's Highland Home," illustrated by magic lantern views, was given In the Caledonian Hall on Monday evening by the Rev. James Mills, M A., of Thames. Musical items were contributed by Misses McNeil and Petlev, and Mrs Armstrong. The lecture was in "aid of SL Andrew's Chnreh funds.
