James Smith, who was given, an excellent character as a. gardener, but trho had been on a wild hurrah for the past moirth, during which time he has been six times in charge, came up with a recommendation from the Sub-Inspector to the effect that a eha.nge from his present occupation to that of catching sehna.pper at Rotoros Island .would do him good. Consequently Smith was signed on with the Island reformative fishing fleet for twelve months. He will hsro the company of a youth named Charies Bcottow, who didn't"know his age, but thought it was ?.bout 21 years, and who had apparently achieved the notoriety of a prohibition order -before be had attained his majority. This unfortunate lad was consigned for two years' curative treatment on Rotoroa. When Thomas Hosking went to do some business in a shop ai Oaehncga last Saturday, he left his £10 bicycle at the rear of the premises. It disappeared, a.nd was not again traced till yesterday, when a young man of about 20 years, named Lawrence GwaUrani, was found in possession. He admitted having taken the machine, and hariag tried to sell it at several places in town, though without success. Cotmeel consequently asked for bail during the week's adjournment applied for by the police. Suib-Inspeetor Hendrey stated thai the allegation was that; accased trespassed ou premises where he had no right, accosted the young lady, and made an improper suggestion to her. Bail was fixed at two sureties of £50, or one of £100. MAXNTENAMCE. An order of separation from.his ■wife was made againet Charles Louis Dongiaa, a sea cook, and he was ordered to pay 20/ a week towards Mb wife's and that of an infant child. Thomas Jas. Taylor, a bnshman, was sentenced to three months' hard labour, the warrant to be suspended provided he pays £10 in three "weeks and £3 thereafter in respect to the maintenance of his child in the. industrial school. An order of separation was made with respect to William Jno. Stansfield and his wife, and the husband was ordered to contribute 15/ a week towards the support of the wife, and 5/ a week to the keep of each of the two children. For cycling on a footpath at Grey Lynn, Bertram Gibson was fined b/ and 7/ costs. A young man named Victor Todd pleaded to two charges of indecency, and was committed to the Supreme Court fo? sentence.
