CONYNGHAM DIVORCE CASE.
■ DECREE NISI GRANTED. (By-Telegraph. — Association.) WELLINGTON", Monday. The case in which Alice Conyngham sued for a. divorce from her husband, Arthur Conyngham, on the grounds of adultery, was continued in the Supreme Court this afternoon. In opening the case, Mr. Levi said the allegations were that adultery occurred in Wellington on January 18 and 19 last. The facts were so simple that he would not open at further length. The petitioner said she was married in Sydney on March 11, 1893, and she lived with her husband for some years. There were three children of the marriage. They lived together in Sydney until some time in 1900. They were separated for a time, and they met again in Wellington, where they lived as man and wife for about a year. This was until about three years ago, when the respondent went away. He had not really maintained her for 12 years. Petitioner also gave evidence of occurrences which led her to suspect her husband. Conyngham proceeded to ask questions reflecting on his wife, but his Honor disallowed them as irrelevant. A private inquiry agent garve lengthy evidence, ne was cross-examined at length. The respondent went into the witnessbox, and denied the truth of any of the allegations of impropriety, and gave evidence in support of his statement. When the cross-examination concluded at 4.40 p.m., the Court adjourned till 10.30 a.m. the next day. WELLINGTON, this day. The jury in the Conyngham case, after a retirement of 40 minutes, found that respondent committed adultery on the •dates mentioned. The petition for a decree nisi was granted, with costs against Conyngham.
