Before the Christchrrrch Magistrate's Court theTe recently appeared a man on a charge of failure to maintain. Why did you leave your wife?" asked the Magistrate. "Which wife?" indignantly demanded the accused. "Well, how many have you?" asked the Magistrate. "None whatever," was the reply. The Sub-In-spector here intervened, explaining that the lady in question was merely "the mother of his child." Feilding sent away to the freezing works this season nearly a .quarter of a. .million sheep.
