ARMAMENTS AND ECONOMY.
REDUCING THE BURDEN BY MOULDING FOREIGN POLICY (Received 9.10 -p.m.) LONDON, December 14. Mr. Lloyd George, speaking in th« House of Commons, said there was little hope of a reduction of expenditure, because the House of Commons, Which alone could effect economy, always pressed for greater expenditure. If Parliament wanted economy, it must mould the foreign policy in such a •way as to render an increase of armaments unnecessary. The CJovrrnment hoped to reduce the national debt by ten and a-half millions tliis year, making a reduction of eighty millions during its tenure of office. NOT A POPULAR SUBJECT. (Received 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, December 14. In the House of Commons, dtaring the Financ Bill debate, Mr. Chamberlain compla'ned that the House of Commons had jot discussed finance for three years. Mr. TJoyd George Teplied e^yiomy was not a popular subject.
