KING IN INDIA.
YOUNG TUHK CAMPAIGN AGAINST ITALIANS IN TRIPOLI. FRENCH PRESSMAN KILLED. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copjrlrfit.i (Received 8.5 a.ni.)_ TRIPOLI. December 3. It is alleged that an emissary of the Young Turks tabbed. M. Jean Carrer, of the "Temps," supposing him to be an Italian. H was recently reported that the Young Turks had ordered the assassination of individual Italians. REPELLED BY THE BATONET. A TURKISH CHARGE. HEAVY LOSSES IN TRIPOLI. (Received 10.50 a.m.) ROME. December 3. The Italians in Tripoli drove off a large force of Turks and Arabs with the bayonet. The artillery shelled the fugitives, and it is believed that the Turkish losses were heavy. The Italians had eight killed and 17 wounded.
AN ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME. EXCITEMENT OF THE HINDUS. BOMBAY, December 3. The P. and 0. Company's Medina, conveying King George and Queen Mary to the Durba:. arrived in the harbour today. The harbour, under brilliant sunshine, was full of decorated craft.
The Viceroy (Lord Haniinge of Penshurst i hoarded t.he Medina, which was welcomed with a Royal salute of 101 guns, the first ever fired in the harbour. Their Majesties landed in the afternoon, when there were renewed salutes. The arrival of the King and Queen happily coincided with the Moha.mmedan festival of Bakrid.
A recent was held in a magnificent pavilion superbly decorated with national flags, including those of Australia and New Zealand. The scene was mad* brilliant, by the gaiety of the uniforms and clothing worn by the native, potentates, the officials and soldiers. All ranks of officials wsrr present, including the clergy and judges. Their Majesties were stated upon golden thrones, under a canopy of royal blue. They were presented with an address from the city. The King, in th<> course of his rpplv, said that one of his first desires, after his accession, was to visit his Indian subjects. A stately procession through the city followed, after which the King and Queen returned to the Medina. The excitement of the public in connection with the arrival of the King and Queen is unexampled within living memory. Portraits of Their Majesties are being sold in the streets in immense numbers. FIRE AT DURBAR CAMP. FIVE MAIN TENTS DESTROYED. (Received 11.55 a.m.) BOMBAY, December 3. Their Majesties lunched at Government House and worshipped in the Cathedral to-day. A fire, due to the fusing of a wire, ruined the Lieutenant-Governor of the Punjaub's camp at Delhi, destroying the five main reception and dining-room tents.
