Mr. Davidson, of the London staff of the "Daily Mail," is to pay New Zea- , land a visit this month. ■ Dr. Crossley, Anglican Bishop of Auckland, loft last night for Mercury Bay and Coromandel. He returns to Auckland on Tuesday.' At Mr. Massey's meeting at Remuera last evening the chairman (Mr. Arch. • Clark) said that he thought the meeting should express its appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. F. Lawry during the twenty years for which he ihad represented Parnell. It was an open secret that Mr. Lawry would be raised to the Upper House, and he should be congratulated on that prospective honour. (Applause.) Mr. J. Erasmus, chief reporter of the "Rand Daily Mail," published at Johannesburg, accompanied by bis wife, arrived at Wellington from South Africa hp the Corinthfeon Thursday. Mt. Erasmus, who was formerly a law clerk at the Thames, has been in South Africa for eight"years past. He is over here on furlough," and intends to return to Johannesburg after spending a couple of months with relatives and friends at Te Aroha, Thames, and Auckland. Major T. W. McDonald, of the New Zealand staff corps, left Wellington by the Main Trunk express yesterday for Auckland, en route for Sydney, where he will join his wife and family before sailing for England to be attached to the regular forces for training. Captain A. C. Stevens, of the New Zealand staff corps (late Royal Field Artillery), who has acted! as =taff officer to Major T. W. McDonald, commandant of junior cadets, * for the past two years, assumed charge of the department from yesterday. . Exceptional investment.
