PERSONAL.

Dr. Gilpin died suddenly at Dargaville yesterday. Mr. W. J., Ralph left by the Makura last night for Sydney, and will be absent in Australia about a month. Mrs. W. Pavitt, of Parnell, left by the Maheno yesterday for a .three months' trip to Sydney and Melbourne. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Gear, of Wellington, arrived from the South this morning, and are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. John Milward, manager for the Pacific Cable Board, who has been visiting Helcnsville and neighbourhood, leaves for the Bay of Islands and Doubtless Bay this evening. The following are recent arrivals at "Cargen": Mr. G. E. Milnes and Miss A. H. Conor (Langdon, Canada), Mr. and Mrs. Carleton Williams (Poverty Bay), and Mr. A. Mills (Hawke's Bay). —
