NEW MAG-NET. SOME SATISFACTORY] ASSAYS. The following are the results of assays made by Professor A. Jarman at the School of Mines, Auckland: —'No. 1, one pound weight quartz with some country rod-:, £2 9/ per ton; No. 2, two and three-quarter pounds of quartz with pyrites aiid dark sulphide, £4 19/1; No. 3, two and a-half pounds of quartz with, dark sulphid.es, £4 3/1; No. 4, one pound quartz with a little pyrites and dark sulphides, £27 19/2 per ton. Messrs J. W. Coleman and W. Jamieson, directors of the -New Magnet GAL Coy, having recently visited the mine, report that the reef at the low level i ■ being stoped, and the ore won is being saved for treatment. • This as the block where th e high assays were got from the hangingwall portion. A breaking down of the third stope showed rich sulphides to toe running right through to the footwall. The samples submitted for assay ■were taken with tbe assistance of the manager, the hanging wall -being £4 19/1 and the footwall £4 3/1 per ton. The reef at this point is fully two feet wide with 400 ft overhead. Samples taken from the ore stacked in the hopper assayed from £2 9/ to £27 19/2 per ton.
BRBMNER'S FREEHOLD. The manager telegraphed yesterday afternoon:—"No. 1 level north, discovered a nice looking reef, three feet in the hangingwall of No. I reef. It is three inches wide, shawing strong blotches of gold in the stone." MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Golden Cross.—The outcrop of a reef has been discovered on the surface on the south portion. Some pieces or quartz from this when pounded gave a splendid show of gold in the dish. The manager -thinks this is likely to prove of importance. May Queen.—No. 10 level (1000 feet): In the crosscut going towards the Bright Smile shaft, a clay break was met. This has now been passed through. The Exchange reef in the drive continues to look very promising, and the quartz still shows gold freely. It also yields a little picked stone at each brealdng-down. According to Survey, the junction of the second lode should be cut in a few more feet of driving. There is a nice looking body of quartz, and carrier good -minerals. £>toping at No. 6 level occasionally produces a little picked stone. Kuranni.—At the battery level in the crosscut east, a leader was ?ut, carrying excellent mineral. On Thursday the Oddfellows' reef was cut rn the surface level. It is 16 inches wide, and has a kindlyappearance. Traders in the Shellback level arr> being prospected. Kllverstream. —The Julia reef is IS inches wide in the drive, bnt. no sulphides are showing. In the stopes, good patches or rich ore arc being got. No. 3 stope Is showing an improvement, as some rich patches of ore are showing in the roof of this stope. (Six tons of ore are to hand for the week, and 44cwt have now been bagged for shipment to Auckland. Rising Sun.—-The level is in 1 (02ft. The ground is about the same as last reported, -being good for boring.
