ARRESTED AFTER FIVE YEARS
A FINGER-PRINT ROMANCE. MAN BEFORE AUCKLAND COURT. An illustration of the far-reachin" grasp of the finger-print system came before the Auckland ptrblic this morning, when John Owen, alias Dorre, -alias George Rowe, alias John Lucy, appeared in the Police Court on a charge of having on 21st April, 101X5, at Moiitoa, Foxton, attempted to murder Augustus Percy Faston. Five years ago the events precedent to the oliarge took place, in which it was alleged that John Owen tried to murder Easton, first by firing at him with a gun. and later by hitting him with an axe. Search was made for Owen, •but he disappeared entirely from human ken, leaving only as a memory with the police some finger-prints. A "few weeks back a man named Rowe Ibrought himself under the notice of the police toy disorderly conduct in Auckland, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. His I'm.ger-prmts were taken in the ordinary course, and sent on to the depot, where it "was discovered that they were identical with the prints of the missing man Owen, Consequently Rowe was this morning brought from gaol to have the charge of attempted murder brought against him. He was remanded for a week, and then the police will apply for a further remand in order that* the accused may appear at Foxton to stand trial.
