YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual public meeting of the Auckland Yoong Women's Christian Association was heW last evening In the Y.M.C.A. Hall, which was practically filled with friends and supporters of the Association. Dr. W. C. W. McDowell presided, and read apologies for absence from Bishop Crossley and several Auckland clergymen, also letters of congratulation from the president of the Australian National Y.W.C.A., Miss Anderson (lately connected with the Auckland Association), and from several other Associations in New Zealand.
The chairman, in his remarks, said that he was particularly pleased to be present, as he bad had many opportunities, both as a citizen and a professional man, of seeing the good which the Association had accomplished among the young women of 1 Auckland during tiiirty years or more. The last year had been one of activity, and be was glad to see that the Association had launched out in several directions, notably In that of Joining the newly-formed Young Women's Club. He felt sure that the Association wao certain of public support on the ground, first, that It helped to build up character on a Christian basis. In this connection be recalled the services rendered by the Rev. J. S. Gill, afterwards Bishop of Eastern Equatorial Africa, and one of Us founders, in combating rationalist attacks in Auckland. Secondly, the Association encouraged culture, both physical and mental, which, alike, were necessary to the healthy development of womanhood. He was more especially interested in the educational side of the Association s work, for he recognised that an Intellectual Interest was of Immense value to women, even more than to men. particularly in times of sickness or disability. Lastly, it encouraged comradeship, and on these ™ clad to do vrhat he conld to forward Its '"Addresses on "Women's Contribution to National l!lfe" and "The OalUvatlon of Noble Womanhood" were delivered respeetlvelv bv the Rev.
