"MISREPORTED."
MR MARTIN AND SIR JAS. CARROLL (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. Mr. R. R. Martin (Opposition organiser), interviewed this morning, said as far as he knew the reporter representing the "Horowhenua County Record" was the only shorthand reporter present at the meeting during which he referred to Sir James Carroll. He quoted from the paper mentioned, which statec, under the heading "Native Lands": "It Parliament could be made to devote a session even to this difficulty alone (referring to the noxious weeds on native lands) the existence of the Reform party would be justified ; but there was no native land policy —nothing but a title for the Government for their policy of the last 20 years." He was certain that no reporter of the "Otaki Mail" had taken a verba* im report. He was certain that the Mayor (Mr. Paton), who presided, would substantiate what he said in that no personal reference was made regarding any Minister or member.
